SUMMARY OF GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS - Information for all participants

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The festival will be held April 16th, 17th, and 18th at the Kelowna
Community Theatre,  the Rotary Centre for the Arts, and Munin's.

The festival often fills up before the official deadline. Please register early.

Registration fees are $300.00 per group. All cheques should be made payable to
"B.C. Interior Jazz Festival". Registrations are now completed online.
Please note the new mailing address for festival registration payments:

BC Interior Jazz Festival
PO Box 21111 Orchard Park
Kelowna BC
V1Y 9N8

The only additional cost incurred for festival participants will be for the Friday
evening Jazz Masters Concert. This evening concert fee (for participants, directors,
and chaperones) is only $15, which is half the ticket price for the general public.

OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of the festival are to promote the pursuit of  musical
excellence,  promote music education (and more specifically, jazz education) in
the schools and community,  as well as to provide members of the community (by
way of workshops, which are open to everyone,  as well as high calibre evening
concerts) with opportunities to participate in the music education
experience.

GENERAL REGULATIONS:

It is the responsibility of each ensemble director to read the rules and
regulations and all  pertinent information.  The director must be prepared to
abide by all the rules and regulations, and registration  in the Festival will
be an acknowledgment of that decision.  It is the responsibility of each
ensemble director to  discuss the rules and regulations and all pertinent
information with all participants in preparation for attending the  Festival.

CONDUCT:

Adjudicators are asked to advise the Festival Committee if at any time they
are faced with incidents of  inappropriate conduct. Problems and violations
brought to the attention of the Festival Committee (at any time during the
Festival) will be dealt with appropriately and if such problems persist, may
result in disqualification  from all awards, invitations and honours.

REGISTRATION:

We appreciate your registering in the festival.  Please be aware of the fact,
however, that we must limit our registration to 75 groups.  Groups will be
registered on a first come, first served basis.  Groups whose registrations are
received after the final spot is filled will be put on a waiting list in the
order that their registration is received.   As a substantial waiting list has
occurred throughout the past number of years, we do ask you to register early to
avoid disappointment.

CHANGES and CANCELLATIONS:

Please notify us as to any changes, particularly with regard to performance
category.  Example: switching from “senior” to “intermediate” jazz band.

As a courtesy to those on the waiting list, please notify us immediately if
you have registered for an adjudicated  performance but are unable to attend the
festival.  Groups who register for the festival and then do not appear for
their performance cause awkward holes in the program.  If we are aware of these
cancellations in advance, we can juggle  the timetable so that the on-stage
continuity is not disrupted.

ADJUDICATORS:

We always try very hard to employ the services of individuals who display
both a high level of vocal or instrumental expertise as well as an
understanding of the needs and sensitivities of student musicians. This year is
no exception. Check the website for details and updates.

GUEST ARTISTS:

Once again, we will be offering a high quality Friday evening performance at
bargain prices for festival participants. Tickets will be offered to
participating groups at discount prices by way of an email which will be sent
out early March. Tickets are sometimes available at the registration desk or at
the theatre door during the Festival, but we cannot guarantee that seats will be
available at that time.

FINAL SHOWCASE CONCERT:

The Saturday evening Showcase Concert is a performance celebrating the many
excellent Jazz Bands, combos, and choirs from all performance categories in the
festival. Groups will be invited to perform in this concert by the adjudicators as soon
as that information becomes available. Since the festival is no longer competitive,
groups invited to perform are not considered to have won any category, and may
be featured based on any number of criteria as determined by our adjudicators.
Multiple groups from a given category may be invited. Directors: Subs are available
for your students, so please contact us immediately if you are invited to perform but
one or more of your students cannot attend.
